Transforming an existing escape room into a live immersive experience for Stan and Funlab.

In February 2024, Stan partnered with Funlab to transform an existing escape room at Strike Bowling Darling Harbour into Stan’s Dead Zone, celebrating the Australian launch of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.
Guests entered the world of Alexandria and had 50 minutes to navigate the experience, solve clues and survive encounters with live walkers.
The existing escape-room experience was adapted to incorporate live performance, theatrical character encounters and additional production elements designed to make the world feel inhabited rather than simply themed.
Working within an operational venue and an established experience meant the production needed to integrate seamlessly with the existing environment while adding a new live layer for the limited-time activation.
My Role
I managed the production of the live elements of the experience, overseeing the transformation from an existing escape room into a performer-led activation.
I sourced and coordinated the live talent, special-effects makeup and costume required to create the walkers, working across the different departments to ensure the characters felt authentic to The Walking Dead universe and could operate effectively within the existing escape-room format.
My role included coordinating talent requirements, makeup schedules, wardrobe, performer operations and the practical production needs of introducing live characters into an already functioning attraction.
The result added a theatrical layer to the escape room, combining the existing puzzles and environments with live walker encounters to create a more immersive experience tied directly to the launch of the new series.
